Belouch fragment cushion with chestnut soft velvet back.
The Belouch tribe is on the borders of Eastern Iran and Afghanistan. Their rugs are some of the easiest to identify as historically they are always in the deep dark colours. Here we see early chemical dyes with mid blue, red and purple tones alongside the madder, aubergine, brown deep indigo with ivory hi lites. Here the border area is made up of repetitive stylized flowers flanked by a zig zag and mehrab (arch) before the flowers and geometric motifs of the elephants foot are just seen
