A favourite of mine. The Herati garden trellis design is found throughout many regions of Persian rugs and here the colour palate is stunning. The cochineal red, soft green and pistachio and almond tones throughout leave this rug as highly decorative. Some of the petals help age the rug as the use of the early fuchsine dye has oxidised to the soft grey onion skin tone as so often it does.
The Herati design is sometimes described as lovers trying to get through the gates to each other, I prefer to stick to the flora and fauna weaving their way over the rug.
The Karabagh almost carved stone simple border adds a 3 dimensional affect to this rug.
